Artist Statement

As a sculptor, geometrical shapes, the cube in particular, have been at the centre of my practice. Despite its mathematical connections, the cube had allowed me to use intuition as a method of investigation. In the process of exploring space, I have also seen the unseen, layers of meaning and the power of opposites.

Although materials such as metal or wood control me by their physicality, whenever necessary, I let them dictate their own direction. As a result, my cubes are never rigid and always carry with them silence and stillness, even when movement touches them.

In CASTING OFF, the coastal landscape of Whitstable and its organic forms have led me to question the wearability of jewellery, the position of the individual in society and of the Artist within a group via a homage to a 1966 song. A series of prints reveal the unseen.
